Show Boat:at our store, we stock over 2000 models, so if you see the manufacturer, but not the model, don't be shy - give us a call and we will be happy to check! I couldn't wait to put this in my DVD player as soon as I got it. Of course I've seen it before on TCM. But now I own this and can play it whenever I feel the urge to see and hear all its great music, singing and acting to a great story. Even though its in black and white it doesn't matter in the least. To me its much better than the later version (1951) in Technicolor . What a superb cast beginning with Irene Dunne who makes a wonderful Magnolia and Alan Jones as dashing riverboat gambler Gaylord Ravenal. Now, I personally liked Jones performance and his lyrical tenor singing. And what can one say beyond superb as to Paul Robeson's singing of 'Ol' Man River'. Very, very moving. Others in the cast are also superb, especially Helen Morgan as Julie. Her two songs will have you holding back the tears. My Man Bill sung by her is so tragic and heartfelt it cannot fail to melt your heart. And I also thought Charles Winninger was wonderful as the captain and was much better than Joe E Brown in the later version of 1951. The rest of the cast were all superb, beyond reproach. All the singing and dancing and acting, all wonderful. The lighting, scenery, the sets and the direction by James Whale needs to by mentioned because it was all magnificent. Please do not miss this superb version of one of the greatest musicals and stories ever written and shown in all its glory in this production, from 1936!fees free!!,max 80% off, large special price !!Show Boat

Editorial Reviews

Edna Ferber's classic tale of life and love among a theatrical troupe on a Mississippi riverboat has received many dramatic treatments since its birth over eighty years ago."br""br"But none is more satisfying than this 1936 production, widely accepted as the best and most faithful of three screen versions of the Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein II musical. A splendid, indeed definitive cast features Irene Dunne as the lovely Magnolia, fated to fall for Allan Jones' dashing riverboat gambler, Gaylord Ravenal. It is their turbulent romance and Magnolia's growth from a shy guileless girl to a mature star of the stage that form the core of the story.

In her last film appearance, Helen Morgan will break your heart as the tragic Julie, with her songs "Bill" and "Can't Help Lovin' That Man." And there is perhaps no more memorable performance in musical history than Paul Roberson's moving rendition of "Ol' Man River."

All Abuzz About Bugs!

We are an online community of naturalists who enjoy learning about and sharing our observations of insects, spiders, and other related creatures.

We enjoy the opportunity to instill in others the fascination and appreciation that we share for the intricate lives of these oft-maligned creatures.

Our Mission

Using the best resources we have access to, we are creating a knowledgebase to help each other and the online community.

Our Method

We collect photographs of bugs from the United States and Canada for identification and research.

We summarize our findings in guide pages for each order, family, genus, and species.

Making New Discoveries

More than just a clearinghouse for information, this site helps expand on the natural histories of our subjects. By capturing the place and time that submitted images were taken, we are creating a virtual collection that helps define where and when things might be found.

We capture never-before-seen behaviors and we have photos of species that you won't find anywhere else on the web.
